A fantastic wine that is the result of careful tending to vines over 40 years old in the vineyards of the communes of Gaillan and Queyrac. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon give the top cuvée "Renissance" the right character. Full fruit, fine, already sweet tannins and elegant complexity. The wine spoils with charm and a long finish. The great vintage was perfectly vinified here.
Our sommelier Elke Schmidt recommends her selection of dishes to go with this wine:
Château Layauga goes well with venison pâté with black walnuts, or with guinea fowl breast wrapped in smoked bacon and stewed, with cassis sauce and lentils.
Also wonderful with leg of lamb with red wine sauce, aubergines, zucchini and tomatoes, if you like it lighter, you will be happy with pork fillet on lentils and cassis dressing.
Cheese recommendation: Brie den Meaux, Camembert de Normandie, Epoisses, Maroilles, Cantal, Bleu d'Auvergne
Winegrowers often have an interesting past. In the early 1970s, Philippe Jorand and his wife Odette worked in our bistro. Today, after various positions with their own restaurants in Münster and later in the north of the Medoc, they are at home and prepare delicious wines at their Château Layauga. Due to our friendly relationship, which we always deepen through regular meetings at the table with fine food and good wine, we are allowed to trade his wine from our own equipment starting with the 2009 vintage. The top cuvée "Renissance" can be compared to well-known, classified plants in blind samples. You'll be surprised how much good wine you get for your money here.
